Michael Kretschmer

Michael Kretschmer (Austrian, 1974) joined Van Lanschot Kempen in June 2023 as Portfolio Manager in the Global Small Cap Equity Strategy. With more than two decades of asset management experience, Michael focuses on Japanese small caps and advises portfolio holdings on corporate governance improvements.

He started his career in 2001 at Rotterdam based, now ORIX-owned Robeco Asset Management. From 2008-2014, Michael was Board Member and CIO of Pelargos Capital, a Hedge Fund specialized in Japanese equities. He has a background in Plastics Engineering and graduated in 2000 from the University of Economics in Vienna.

During his academic career he wrote research studies at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the VU University in Amsterdam and continues to give guest lectures on Capital Markets. Michael is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter holder, and as native German speaker he is fluent in Dutch, English, French and studies Japanese.
